Composition

What is Composition?

Composition is the structure of a piece of artwork. Structure is very important in art as it is the reason that most art has meaning or gives off emotion. Composition also refers to the combination of the elements in art, e.g. tone, pattern, colour, shape, line, mood. Without these, art would not have much purpose other than to look pretty. Art is mainly about expressing/conveying feelings and emotions to the viewer. It can tell a story about the artist's life or tell the viewer about the artist's mood whilst creating the artwork. Different emotions can be given off by a single piece of artwork simply because everyone interprets things with a different perspective to the last. It can cause an array of emotions at the same time. It could also alter peoples' views on someone or something possibly related to political issues. The effects art can have on people are endless, and art hopefully won't change into anything less than this.
