Textile Final Piece Evaluation

Image
Black Death I decided to call my piece 'Black Death' simply because that is what it's about. Black death is the supposed most common name for the 'Plague'. I based my piece off of the rhyme "Ring-a-ring o' roses, a pocket full of posies". As I wanted to include a certain material I found related to flowers, I thought this'd be perfect. The basic idea behind my piece is that appearance isn't everything, like the rhyme for example. Although it is sung happily, it has a dark meaning as it is related to the plague.    In a way, my title is quite misleading if you don't understand what it is. Whilst it has a dark meaning, the appearance of my piece seems quite the opposite. The use of mostly bright colours would lead the viewer to believe, at first glance, that it may be positive. Although I hadn't sketched my initial plan for my piece, I had quite a few variations along the way. Originally, I was to presen

Fabrics Sketchbook

This was my first attempt at creating shapes using a piece of string dipped into ink. I realised when I tried it first that I had pit too much ink on the piece of string. After I had established this, I wiped some off the next time with some tissue and it came out great. I really like how the string creates the vertical lines due to being pulled down and out of the closed book. With the second attempt, I tried to make it slightly more abstract by randomly splattering ink around the string-made patterns. Even though I like this effect, I wish the patterns I made with the string were wider at the top. I feel that when I do this, it shows the interesting pattern it makes better. As I was more confident by the third attempt, I decided to use different coloured inks and try making the shapes/patterns at different levels. I really like the combination of colours I used as they're all quite similar. This is because I only used red and blue

1st Year Evaluation

Year 1 - Art Overlook This first year of art has definitely helped me to come out of my shell. I’ve really enjoyed researching different genres of art and the artists as well. It also helped to try out different techniques as I was able to see whether I liked them enough to reuse them in the future. Also I could see the effect they gave and I’d be able to consider using them to convey meaning in my next art pieces. Before first year even started we were asked to take photos that linked to ‘Journeys’ and also create a piece of art that showed our personal journeys. I enjoyed taking pictures as it mainly required thought and not skill, and we had quite a bit of freedom. However, I didn’t like my final painting as I rushed it. I feel that the meaning behind it was too simple and predictable. I wish it had a deeper (or even unknown) meaning. When I completed it though, I was reasonably happy with. I realise now that I am capable of a lot more as I have explored further into

Yorkshire Trip

Image
Yorkshire Sculpture Park Trip On this trip I decided to take pictures, some of sculptures and some not. It was to show that art and detail is everywhere not just in the intended places.  I took a picture of a sheep to show the nature that surrounded the sculpture park. Natural life like this is just as beautiful as man-made art.   I think that the textures of the sheep are intriguing. There are many different ones that I can identify, such as: the fluffiness of the wool, the roughness of the hooves. I could imagine using these types of materials in experiments, but I can't see myself including them in a final piece. To me, these materials don't seem to have any meanings and so there's no real need to use them unless it was solely for its texture. This was part of a gate. The design of it really interested me as it's very intricate. There appears to be something wrapping around an arrow. Also, as seen in the background of this image, two arrows

Artist Research Critical Analysis Part 2

I decided I wanted to look further into Lichtenstein's work as from a quick glance it simply seems creative and intricate. However, I am usually more interested in the reason behind artwork and the possible meanings. This is just because I believe that everything has an inspiration and without one, things can fall flat (not become known). René's work didn't excite me because of the methods, but because of the hidden messages he was getting across. The pure craziness of some of his creations were fascinating, they were out of the ordinary and being different in a world of boring is a lot more fun. This was the main reason I decided to explore Magritte's work; the meanings behind them, not the intricacy of the techniques. This is why some of Magritte's section isn't complete (due to not knowing where to start). Both of my chosen artists are inspirations to me as their artwork always appears to be well thought out. For me this is the most i
